I have been getting a lot of work lately, people wanting me to make web sites and such for them.  Lots of work to do, and I'm going to school full-time.

The state of Ohio does not recognize marriage between two men, nor two women.  There is no way for them to show that they are married.  People here in Cuyahoga Falls are complaining that the Cuyahoga Falls Natatorium will not give the married rate to a gay couple.  Several years ago the people of Ohio voted to ban gay marriage in the state.  When my wife and I signed up at the Natatorium we were required to show proof of marriage to get the married rate.  Since they cannot get a marriage license, there is no way to tell whether they are married or not.  They could be sisters, brothers, cousins, etc... just trying to get the lower rate.  Did you also know that the auto insurance companies in the state will not allow them to get the married rate.  I just tried to get a quote from Progressive for two females, and the web site said: "Gender of spouse cannot be the same".  They do however offer a "Domestic Partner" setting, though I am not sure what kind of rate that would get them compared to a married male and female.
So, for this to happen the law needs to change, allowing them to be recognized as married in the state of Ohio.  Without being legally married I do not feel that the Natatorium needs to do anything.  However, it would be nice if they allowed it.  This private business should not be forced to accept this.

You've probably always heard that you save a lot in fuel economy by going 55 as opposed to 65.  I've decided to test this.  This test was done in a 2007 BMW MINI Cooper  on a ~4 mile stretch of SR-8 N in Ohio.  I got on the highway at Graham Road and set the cruise control at the desired speed and held the vehicle in 6th gear.  When I hit a certain point, I reset the gas mileage counter on the vehicle. Then ~four miles down the road at another predetermined point, I recorded the gas mileage.  No braking was done, nor manual acceleration (all done by cruise control), nor gear shifting (kept in 6th gear), however there were a couple of lane changes required which would have minimal effect on the gas mileage.  Here are the results!
Speed    MPG      1000 Mile cost ($4.009/gal)
55       47.5     $84.40
65       41.1     $97.54
70       36.9     $108.64

YMMV!

I went all the way to Aqua Road to get this chair, it recovers 50HP/10sec. With my skills I recover 52HP/10sec, so the long difficult journey was pretty much useless, except that I learned some new areas that I had not been to in the past. I thought it was going to be like a bench you find in towns which actually recover 10% more while you sit on them.

Briana and I took a trip to Canada for our one year anniversary. It was quite fun, we did a lot there, including going to a casino. First we stopped in Niagara Falls, NY for a night, then stayed in Niagara Falls, ON for two nights. We went to the Butterfly Conservatory, White Water Walk, Walk Behind the Falls, and the Maid of the Mist Boat Ride. Had dinner our first night in Canada at this place called Biffy's. Our hotel gave us free dinner there, the dinner was actually $50.08, but our hotel paid for it. We also received two free breakfasts from Biffy's from our hotel. Good stuff. Went to My Cousin Vinny's restaurant for dinner our second night. RIP-OFF! Not only was the food expensive, there were no free refills on drinks, and the drinks were $2.70 each, this was pop too. Total for Fettuccine Alfredo, Chicken Parmesan, and two drinks, $52. Walked into the Casino with $20, walked out with $100.25! I did an experiment with gas on the way there and the way back. I drove around 55-65MPH (mostly at the lower end) on the way to Canada and 65-75MPH (mostly at the lower end) on the way back. On the way there I used 7.2 gallons of gas. On the way back I used 8.5 gallons. Around 15% more coming back because I was going faster.

Saturday, September 24, 2005.
A suicidal person sitting on the railing on the Route 8 southbound bridge. Route 8 southbound is closed off at Tallmadge Avenue for 3 hours, traffic backs up for around 6 miles to Steels Corner Road. Several people late for work... football practice... other events... Hundreds of gallons of gas wasted in this slow moving traffic... All because of one guy that wanted attention. They should shut down the road for 15 minutes max. They should have a timer, and say you have 15 minutes to jump or come down, otherwise we will shoot you. I was not part of the traffic jam. I saw it from the other side. Everyone involved in the jam should get $10 in gas from the jumper. Just because your life is held up, doesn't mean you need to hold up other's. Think of all the money people won't be getting because they were 1 or so hours late to work because of this.
